Chocolate Sugar Cookies with Candy Cane Kisses

Every year my co-workers and I do a baking exchange for the holidays.  It’s a great way to get lots of great goodies for Christmas and you only need to bake once!  This year I made these Chocolate Sugar Cookies with Candy Cane Kisses on top.  I saw these cookies on Allie’s website, Baking A Moment, and knew I had to make them.

In the past I was never a big fan of sugar cookies but I think it’s because I never had a good recipe. That all changed when I found the perfect recipe that I used for my Fall Leaf Sugar Cookies.  It never occurred to me to make Chocolate Sugar Cookies and I’m so glad I did because these are really good!

This dough was also the BEST cookie dough I’ve ever worked with.  It rolled so nicely, cut perfectly and the cookies kept their shape when they were cooked.  Usually I end up with a cookie that melts into unknown forms and you’re not sure if I’ve made Easter cookies or Halloween cookies!  Not this time, though.  The way I cut them is they way they stayed!

These cookies are delicious just the way they are but I wanted to add a little bit extra so I added some red and white coarse sugar, Candy Cane Kisses, and drizzled all of them with melted white chocolate chips.  Pretty festive if I do say so myself!

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 9 minutes

Total Time: 19 minutes

A delicious, soft chocolate sugar cookie adorned with Candy Cane Kisses and drizzled in white chocolate.

  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
  • 1 tablespoon canola oil
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • Red and white coarse sugar
  • Candy Cane Kisses
  • 1/4 cup white chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 375 F. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
In a stand mixer with the paddle attachment, cream together butter, oil, sugar, vanilla and salt just until it's smooth.
Add egg and mix until incorporated.
In a separate bowl, whisk together corn starch, cocoa powder and flour.
Slowly add dry ingredients to the mixer, making sure the mixer is on low while you add.
If the dough gets too hard for the mixer to combine, remove bowl and continue to mix with a large spoon.
If the dough is too sticky, add flour a little at a time until dough doesn't stick to your hands.
Place ball of dough on a piece of parchment paper and roll out until it's 1/4" thick.
Cut with cookie cutters and place on prepared cookie sheet.
Sprinkle each cookie with red and white coarse sugar.
Bake for 9 minutes in preheated oven.
Remove and place one Candy Cane Kiss in the middle of each cookie.
In a ziploc bag, place 1/4 cup of white chocolate chips and melt for about 30 seconds in the microwave. Cut a very small hole in the corner of the ziploc bag and drizzle chocolate over cookies.
Place cookies in the refrigerator to allow Kisses and white chocolate to set (about 30 minutes).
Remove and store in an airtight container.

Cheesy Quinoa and Spinach Bake | A Sweet Baker

Cheesy Quinoa and Spinach Bake

A few years ago my husband made a tri-color quinoa dish that was so tasty.  One layer was red (from sundried tomatoes), another layer was green (from pesto), and the final layer was light brown (from plain quinoa).  It was a time consuming dish to layer all the ingredients but the final dish was so […]
